Cajun Seasoning Recipe

Throw this homemade Cajun seasoning mix together in a matter of minutes and use it to spice up anything from tacos and jambalaya to baked potato wedges.

Ingredients
 

  • 2 tablespoons paprika (or ½ amount smoked paprika)
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons dried thyme
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon salt (omit for a salt-free version)

Instructions
 

  • Add all of the ingredients to a bowl or jar and mix well until everything is evenly combined.
  • Transfer to a dry, sealed container (such as a glass jar with lid) and store in a cool, dark place for up to several months.

Notes

Yield: The recipe above will provide approx. 7 tablespoons of Cajun seasoning mix, which is equivalent to just under ½ cup.
Gluten-free: This homemade Cajun seasoning recipe is completely gluten-free.
Chilli powder: If you don't have cayenne pepper, you can substitute this with chilli powder (note that the flavour and heat level won't be quite the same).
